BTS: Barton Cowperthwaite
Truly nothing makes me happier than collaborating with an amazing team to bring an idea to life. So when I was approached by Elinchrom to help launch their new portable light, The Elinchrom ONE, the wheels started spinning and I quickly knew I wanted to create a dance editorial shoot with the fabulous Barton Cowperthwaite, most recently seen on Netflix’s Tiny Pretty Things.
With any shoot I start by creating some parameters for myself. From a tech standpoint I wanted to use one light, and one lens (see a theme here?). From a style standpoint I collaborated with the fantastic Jake Sokoloff and we decided to flip the commuter business suit on its head, using the brilliant designs of Landeros New York.
One of the aspects that makes this new light so fantastic is that it’s battery operated (a USB-c rechargeable battery sealed in a weather resistant casing to brave the toughest of New York City elements), so getting out into the world with it was a huge priority. We snuck our way into the subway and Barton played with the surroundings as we put the light to the test and gathered a gaggle of onlookers on the platform.
It was brutally hot that day, so we opted for two looks in the studio, but created a through line to our locations by incorporating the fluorescent lighting elements.
Check out some more pics and a BTS vid from our shoot below.
